Maritime Academy is an app designed for mariners, travelers, yachtsmen, pleasure cruisers, and anyone who enjoys spending time around the waterfront. It offers a comprehensive learning experience in maritime flag signaling and the International Code of Signals (ICS) through 104 levels and 35 challenges. The app is divided into six chapters, covering Letters, Numbers, Words, Substitutes, Single Flag Meanings, and Abbreviations.

The teaching and training strategy employed by Maritime Academy is both effective and engaging. Users are first guided through the learning process with ease and then challenged to apply their knowledge under pressure. With a calculated amount of repetition, the app ensures smooth and efficient memorization and progress.

Maritime Academy focuses on teaching maritime flag signaling, which serves as the primary means of communication between ships and shore in addition to radio communication. The app specifically covers flaghoist signaling and operates under the International Code of Signals (ICS). While non-naval vessels adhere to this standardized system, naval vessels use their own set of flags and codes.

Maritime Academy employs two main teaching and training concepts: progressive introduction and focused repetition. The learning material is segmented into chapters and further divided into manageable units or levels to ensure efficient learning and training.

Learning Material

The learning content in Maritime Academy progresses from single-flag concepts to multi-flag concepts. This means that users start with letters and numbers, move on to words and substitutes, and finally learn single flag meanings and abbreviations. The arrangement of the content is optimized for efficiency, and it is strongly recommended to follow this order while advancing through the levels.

Levels and Challenges

To successfully pass a challenge, users must make fewer than three mistakes.

Training Types

The app offers three types of training: key, typing, and button.

The Explore Screen

The Explore screen in Maritime Academy allows users to familiarize themselves with the International Flags and Pennants comprising the English Alphabet's 26 letters, numbers 0-9, and three substitutes. Additionally, users can explore the International Code of Signals, which includes 25 single flag meanings and the 201 most frequently used abbreviations. Simply clicking on the blocks will provide access to each item.
